Getting packages delivered can sometimes be a hassle for fulltime RVers. Some campgrounds will allow you to have things sent to them and others will not. When that happens you have to have it sent General Delivery to the local post office, or else to a local company that accepts packages for travelers. Some of these places charge you as much as $5 a package, which can add up quickly.
Fortunately, there is a company called EZ Auction Drop Off near the Seaside Thousand Trails that only charges $1. And that’s not per package, it’s anytime you go in. So whether you have just one package or half a dozen shipped to them, you only pay $1 no matter how many there are or how big they are. We have been taking advantage of that by ordering a bunch of stuff from Amazon that we have wanted to get.
In a package that came yesterday there were three new flashlights. My buddy Greg White had ordered a couple of the KJL LED Flashlights to use on their gate guarding gig, and said in his blog that they are 900 lumens, three times as powerful as the CREE UltraFire models they have been using. We also have some of the UltraFires, which are small and very handy, but after hearing Greg talk about how neat the new ones are we decided to try them out.

Wow! These things pack a lot of power in a small package. They use three AAA batteries, and Greg said they will light up trees over 100 yards away. I believe it! Miss Terry has one in her desk, I have one in my desk drawer, and another will go in the glove box of our Ford Explorer. And at $8.99 each, they are a heck of a deal. I think I’m going to buy a couple more to put in some of the motorhome’s basement storage bays and on my nightstand. After all, you can never have too many flashlights. They will also make excellent Christmas gifts.
We had lots of blue sky yesterday, but in the afternoon a massive fog bank moved up the coast, hanging over the ocean. We went down to the Turnaround in Seaside and grabbed a couple of quick pictures of it. Mother Nature sure puts on some awesome displays at times, doesn’t she?

I get a lot of e-mails asking about the legalities of traveling with a gun in an RV. Laws vary from state to state, and keeping up with them is a full-time job, so I won’t even begin to give anybody advice on where they can legally travel with a gun. There is already enough misinformation out there without me muddying the waters even more.
Two books I recommend are 2015 United States Traveler’s Guide to the Firearm Laws of the 50 States, and Self Defense Laws of All 50 States. Two other good resources are the Legal Heat app for smart phones and the Handgun Law website, which allows you to create a map showing what states honor other states’ concealed weapons permits. And as I always tell people, if you’re going to have a firearm, please, please, get trained in gun safety and take a tactical shooting class. It’s just as important to know when not to shoot as it is to know how to shoot!
Lately we’ve been getting a lot of phone calls telling us we need to attend an online meeting about changes to our Thousand Trails membership. I was talking to the membership salesperson here at Seaside yesterday and she confirmed that, just as I suspected, it is nothing more than a sales pitch. In fact, the people calling don’t even work for Thousand Trails, they are a call center for an outside sales company. So if you hear from them, just tell them you’re not interested and hang up. We have made good use of our Thousand Trails membership, but I don’t have the time or the patience for somebody who’s trying to make a buck from me and lies to me to get me to listen to their spiel.
