We Like Quiet Days

As much as we like traveling in our motorhome and seeing new places, and our hobbies like kayaking, geocaching, and kite flying, there’s something to be said for just having a quiet day at home, too. And that’s what yesterday was.

It was a damp, gray morning, with the clouds hanging low in the sky. In other words, a good morning for a cappuccino! I sipped mine as I read my morning e-mails and favorite RV blogs, and checked the news to see who we’re at war with today.

While I was doing that, I came across these picture of an RV fire at the Timothy Lake Thousand Trails campground in East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania. The owners got out safely, but lost a cat and everything they had. If you haven’t taken one of Mac McCoy’s RV fire safety classes, do it soon at an RV rally near you.

Our two weeks here at Seaside RV Resort were up yesterday, but we extended for another week, so about mid-morning I drove over to the ranger station at the south campground (there are two units here, north and south) to pay for our stay and pick up our new parking pass. Our Thousand Trails membership gives us 50 “free” nights for our $566 annual dues, which comes out to $11.32 a night. Any nights over that are $5/night. We still had one of our free nights left, so our extra week cost $30. Not bad for a full hookup 50 amp RV site on the Oregon coast.

When Dan Sheppard visited us the other day, he mentioned that he had updated his Rand McNally RV GPSImage may be NSFW.

, and it occurred to me that I had not eve gone online to register mine yet, so I did that and the update at the same time. We’ve been using a Garmin 465 Trucker GPS, which allows you to input the size of your rig and will (hopefully) direct you on routes suitable for your size vehicle. It’s worked out very well, but the Rand McNally has some bells and whistles especially for RVers, including a database of RV parks and services, and WalMarts.

During the afternoon, Bad Nick took over the keyboard for a while to post a new Bad Nick blog titled The Definition Of Insanity. Check it out and leave a comment.

If the weather clears up today, we may take a ride down to Canon Beach to play tourist and take some pictures. If it’s another gray, ugly day we may make it another quiet one at home.

Thought For The Day – It’s better to be an optimist who is sometimes wrong than a pessimist who is always right.
